Jeremy Leeming is a Christchurch-based contemporary jewellery designer known for his refined, minimalist craftsmanship. Inspired by the Bauhaus philosophy of "less is more," his work focuses on clarity of design, where every element serves a purpose. Working primarily in gold and silver, Jeremy creates pieces that balance modernist simplicity with organic textures, resulting in jewellery that feels both timeless and contemporary.
Jeremy’s journey in jewellery design began at the Otago School of Art, where he developed a strong foundation in metalwork and design. He went on to refine his skills at The Jens Hansen Workshop in Nelson, known for its legacy in high-quality craftsmanship. These formative experiences shaped his meticulous attention to detail and deep appreciation for materials.
For the past 15 years, Jeremy has worked closely with Elfi Spiewack, and together they continue to explore contemporary jewellery from The Filing Kabinett in The Tannery, Woolston, alongside fellow jeweller Lynn Kelly. His designs feature a curated selection of native New Zealand stones, including West Coast Pounamu, Banks Peninsula Basalt, and Southland Argillite, alongside precious gems such as diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, aquamarine, and lapis lazuli.
The making process is at the heart of Jeremy’s practice—he thrives on the hands-on nature of his craft. He enjoys working collaboratively with clients, exploring ideas and testing designs to ensure the final piece aligns with their vision. His approach is both experimental and thoughtful, allowing for creativity while maintaining a focus on refined, elegant design.
Jeremy draws immense inspiration from the visionary work of Iranian-English architect Zaha Hadid, whose bold, fluid forms and innovative structural designs have deeply influenced his approach to jewellery. This admiration is reflected in his ability to craft pieces that embody movement, elegance, and architectural precision, seamlessly fusing natural materials with contemporary design.
Jeremy lives in Christchurch with his wife and son, alongside their Bernese Mountain Dog, Lola, balancing family life with his passion for jewellery and the pursuit of timeless design.
